Do you need a SWPPP?

Two numbers about your project, and we'll tell you whether a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan is likely required in New York City.

All ground disturbed by the work — clearing, grading, excavation, demolition, stockpiling, and fill — both on your property and in the street or sidewalk. Routine maintenance doesn't count. If the work is one phase of a larger development, use the total across all phases.
Hard surfaces after construction — roofs, pavement, walkways — minus the most impervious cover the site had at any point in the last 5 years. If you're not adding hard surface, enter 0.

What is a SWPPP?

A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan is the document New York City and New York State require for construction projects above a certain size, showing how the site will keep sediment and pollutants out of the drainage system during and after construction. Depending on the project, it can cover erosion and sediment controls, permanent stormwater practices, or both — along with inspections throughout construction.
